RIP – IAN PHILLIPS (Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit)

From Harrison Phillips –

It is with our deepest regrets we are writing to inform you of the passing of our father Ian M Phillips MNZM at 8:35pm eastern standard time on the 1st of October 2018.

On Wednesday the 26th of September Ian suffered a fall that lead to seizures and a head injury. When brought to the hospital, he was placed on life support and put into a medical coma. A scan of his head was taken where bleeding in his brain as well as blood clots in 2 of the veins in his head were realized.

This became an extreme balancing act of blood thinners as well as attempting to keep the bleeding under control.

On Thursday evening a major surgery was performed on his veins to attempt to remove the clots in his veins to let blood drain out of his brain. This surgery was a success but wasn’t able to relieve enough pressure and swelling of his brain. Over time the pressure became too severe. There was no pain for Ian when the end came.

This sudden and shocking departure of the great Ian Phillips is heart breaking. We will follow up with any and all funeral arrangements.

Lots of love,

Nicole, Jack, Zara and Harrison Phillips
